Ship departure from the dock: The captain should determine the method of departure from the dock based on the impact of wind direction, wind force, current speed, and current direction on the ship, as well as the water depth around the dock and the ship's mooring conditions, and inform the duty personnel; all duty personnel and personnel operating on the deck must wear life jackets; stow unnecessary ropes and obstacles outside the ship's hull; pay attention to the dock, berth, surrounding environment, ships ahead and astern, and the dynamics of passing ships. Only when there is no obstruction to other ships' navigation can the ship proceed, and the departure signal should be sounded according to regulations. After obtaining the consent of the tugboat, the engine can be operated; when a single ship departs from the dock, in a river section with currents, under normal circumstances, according to the direction of the current, the head and stern lines can be cast off, and when the bow or stern forms an angle with the current, all lines can be cast off, and the engine can be used to leave the dock.

In areas with flat currents, the stern can be pushed open with bamboo poles first, and the engine can be started after sufficient water depth is available. In situations where the fore and aft fenders of a twin-screw ship are tight, the rudders of the twin screws can be used in coordination to move laterally away from the berth; when leaving the dock, the engine should not be used too forcefully, and the rudder should not be used too early. A small rudder angle is needed to prevent the stern from sweeping the dock or other moored ships; when a tugboat leaves the dock, the tugboat should first notify the barge to cast off the shore lines. After hearing the barge's signal, the tugboat should then cast off the head lines, proceed slowly, and gradually use a small rudder angle to make the ship move outwards. A deputy crew member should be sent to the stern to observe the ship's dynamics and direct the barge to operate the outer rudder. When the ship is ready to dock or there is no obstruction to other ships, gradually increase the speed.
